Author Biography

Ms. Cousia Towns, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, has overcome many tragedies to triumph in many areas of her life: the murder of her mother; raised in the foster care system as a ward of the state; abandonment by her family; both sexual and domestic violence abuse. She is a successful entrepreneur, over 30 years, Colucci's Hair Design, and Founder & CEO of nonprofit organization, Amore Transitional Group, Inc. It was the God-given vision that created the passion behind the purpose, from experience to career. First time author, “EXPOSED, Sitting in the Blood of Generational Consequences,” was written by Ms. Towns to help others UNMASK and EXPOSE the painful experiences they have unknowingly locked away; not realizing the hurt will resurface within their lives disguised as economic hardships, broken families, strained friendships, and other adversities.

In June of 1968, one little girl's world would come crashing down around her. When Cousia heard the five fatal shots that killed her beloved mother, it would be years later that she would discover her father was the perpetrator. Cousia would spend the rest of her childhood with no safe place to call home and no warmth or guidance. Even when she was abused both physically, mentally and sexually by the man who killed her mother, Cousia was failed by the authorities and family members meant to protect her. Cousia's normal would be brutality and cruelty. Follow Cousia's battle to find the strength to end the cycle of abuse and violence which follows her into adulthood. Exposed by Cousia Towns is an inspirational story of bravery and the resilience of one woman against all odds.

Exposed by Cousia Towns is a book you will read from cover to cover in one sitting. The descriptive narrative throughout of such abuse and disturbing events will send shivers down your spine. From the first chapter, this book had me hooked. The character of Tim is truly vile on every level. The description of him watching her mother and leaving cigarette butts as a form of psychological torture was very powerful. There are some quite distressing scenes throughout but absolutely vital to portray the brutality of Cousia's life. Although Cousia was betrayed by everyone she came into contact with, she still managed to find the strength to continue. I loved her description of her personality as 'Ghetto fabulous'. The pictures and documents throughout the book were a brilliant addition. She is truly a remarkable lady whose emergence from the darkness of abuse and violence will inspire anyone to achieve any goal they set their mind to. The final chapter where we discover how Cousia is giving back to society is poignant and will truly take your breath away.

Exposed: Sitting In The Blood of Generational Consequences by Cousia Towns is a heart-wrenching -- yet inspiring -- memoir of the author. When she was only a child, her father killed her mother. After her father was incarcerated for seven years, she lived with her grandmother. Cousia did not like the strict rules and total lack of affection at her grandmother's place. Soon, Cousia and her sister were sent to live with their father. Just when she thought her life would turn out to be fine, her father started forcing himself on her. She was only twelve years old at the time. Confused, traumatized, and broken, Cousia did not know whether this was normal for a father to behave this way or not. Thus started the seemingly endless cycle of abuse! When she found a way out of the sexual abuse of her father, she ended up dating equally -- if not more -- abusive men.

Books like this one generate different sentiments in different readers. People with an emotional/physical abuse history realize that they are not alone; whereas, people who did not go through such traumatizing events count their blessings. Cousia Towns did not share her story in a victim's voice; instead, she has been nothing less than a roaring lioness. She lost a few battles, but she held fast to her fighting spirit. When everyone betrayed her, she put her faith in the Almighty. In the world of chaos, she has inspired people to keep believing in themselves. Cousia Towns has done a fantastic job of expressing her emotions. As a reader, I could feel her fear, helplessness, frustration, and longing to be loved. Her outrage at society for ignoring the signs of abuse is crystal clear and 100% accurate. Though a very quick read, Exposed by Cousia Towns embodies all the elements of great non-fiction: a heartfelt narration, an immediate emotional connection with the author, and inspiring takeaways.

Exposed: Sitting in the Blood of Generational Consequences by Cousia Towns is the personal story of the author as she retells the hardships of her life and how she survived it all with a bit of hope and a lot of strength. Cousia Towns is the second youngest of eight children born to Barbara and Timothy Towns. They separated and her father killed her mother when she was two, but that one incident changed her life forever. Her grandmother raised her well, but the hurt of the past was enough to tarnish the future of anyone. That is when her true trial began. Throughout her life, she had to make herself smaller to survive abuse and rape. However, nothing could prepare her for the hardships that would come her way when she was living in the foster system and how she ultimately became a victim of the system. But she pulled through it all, she found the grace of God and she survived. How she did that? How can a person survive that?

The mental and physical trauma Cousia Towns went through is no piece of cake but the way she held her head high and made sure to live life on her terms is very encouraging. I don’t know if she knows it but I think her story can give courage to many people who have been in a similar situation and are just looking for some hope to move forward in life. She is a warrior and a survivor and what she is doing with Amore is phenomenal. She is offering a safe place for young adults who don’t have a home, yet they are ready for a better future. Ms. Towns is a brilliant woman; she showed immense strength in sharing her story and opening herself up to the world. Exposed: Sitting in the Blood of Generational Consequences by Cousia Towns can be the encouragement you need to think a little deeper and find the courage inside to stand up for yourself!

Exposed: Sitting in the Blood of Generational Consequences by Cousia Towns is a memoir of one woman’s journey through sexual abuse and rape, going through the pain of her mother’s murder, and abandonment. Cousia was raped by her father as a little girl and she has lived with the trauma over the years. She captures the painful experience in the following words: ‘The trauma of my past silenced me for a very long time. My father's threats haunted me my entire childhood! The words, “If you tell, I’ll kill you,” replayed in my head again and again while I was awake and asleep.’ As if growing up without the tender love of a mother wasn’t enough, she had to experience the failure of a disappointing foster care system. This memoir documents her journey towards healing and inner freedom and the power of God in her life.

This story is told in a voice that is clear and intimate. It is unalloyed and the rawness in tone depicts Cousia Towns’s acceptance of who she is and demonstrates that she can face her experiences. While the reader is pulled in by the poignancy of the narrative, there is an inspiring twist which is all about the author’s inner journey, one that transforms her from a broken and victimized woman to a loving, caring mother. Exposed: Sitting in the Blood of Generational Consequences is honest, compelling, and reflects the author’s courage in castigating the evil that haunts little girls. Her voice is one of hope, especially to those who have experienced abuse and been paralyzed by it. The message is loud and clear: They can be free, too.

Exposed: Sitting In The Blood Of Generational Consequences is a serious and hard hitting work of non fiction, penned in the form of a short autobiography by author Cousia Towns. The work takes a look at the cause and effect relationship between childhood experiences and the ways in which we allow ourselves to be treated as adults. Coming from real life trauma, Towns discusses her terrifying childhood from experiences of sexual abuse and rape by her own father to the extreme trauma of sitting in the blood of her mother’s murder. A childhood then spent in foster care leads the grown-up Towns into a world where domestic violence as an adult became her norm.

Readers will need a strong mind and stomach to tackle the harrowing and deeply impactful childhood experiences of author Cousia Towns, which are told with raw emotive power and a strong command of narrative voice throughout this hard hitting work. The autobiographical style brings readers close to the action in ways that are difficult to digest, but the work tells an essential story about how traumatic childhoods such as these can lead to adults who accept abuse-filled households as the norm later in life. There’s both sympathy and strength to be taken from the tale, which is well edited to bring sharp realism to some moments and quiet poignancy to others. Never too sensational or gratuitous, unless it needs to be, Exposed: Sitting In The Blood Of Generational Consequences is highly recommended read for people who want to understand the effects of trauma and abuse.

Exposed Sitting in the Blood of Generational Consequences is raw and emotional. It is a page-turner and I could hardly put it down. Ms. Towns story is one of redemption found only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. With little guidance growing up she proved that her own resilience and tenacity would serve her well. She overcame so many obstacles that would destroy most of us. God surely sent His angels to guide and protect her. The book is a testament to the power and sovereignty of God. The devil tried hard to destroy Cousia but God used her story for His good. Many girls are finding the right path through her Amore Transitional Group home. I am blessed to know Cousia and to be one of her classmate ‘s in the New Member class she mentions in this book. Only God can make a miracle from a mess.
