Eye of the Storm: A Gray Ghost Novel, Book 2 is a suspense novel written by Amy McKinley. Mari knew she had to get out of Colombia, far away from the childhood friend who had become her worst enemy. She had been headed toward Panama when an armed pursuer began herding her in the wrong direction. Mari was tired and smaller than her pursuer, and while she would go down fighting, and preferably take him along with her, she still hoped beyond hope for a chance to escape. It came in the most unlikely way. Mari heard the whine of a bullet and a thump as the pursuer fell. Her rescuer was a tall, pale-skinned, blonde woman, whose imperious mannerisms made the grateful and exhausted Mari bristle. Her name was Hannah, and she had a deal for Mari. Mari would pay off the debt of Hannah having saved her life by nursing a wounded man back to health. They found him dangling upside down from a tattered parachute that had been caught in the forest canopy. When he came to, Hannah had vanished, leaving Mari with the man who was supposed to help her leave the country. But could she trust him to do that?
Amy McKinley’s Eye of the Storm: A Gray Ghost Novel, Book 2 is a fast-paced and exciting novel that takes the reader deep into the jungles of Colombia as Mari and Chris fight to stay alive and evade the guerrillas who have been charged with capturing and returning her to the brutal head of the Ramirez cartel. I envied them the beauty of the jungle setting even as they had to contend with a pesky fer de lance snake and other jungle hazards, and enjoyed seeing the two of them form a working and effective partnership. While Eye of the Storm is the second book in this series, the two books can be read independently of each other. That said, I’d advise reading both of them. Broken Circle, the first book in the series, is a marvelous thriller, and I delighted in recognizing the Gray Ghosts and appreciated how neatly the entwined plots worked together. Eye of the Storm: A Gray Ghost Novel, Book 2 is most highly recommended.
