Fancy is a puppy. When she’s taken to her new home in the country, she’s happy. There’s lots of space to run and she has a girl who’s special. But there are no other puppies and the girl has to go to school. So Fancy is often alone. She doesn’t like being alone. She tries to make friends with the farm animals, but they don’t want to play with her. Even the cat’s not interested. And Baby the Buffalo has to stay close to his Mamma. Fancy explores further and finds some other puppies to play with. She even has to play dress-up with Axl, one of her new friends. But it doesn’t matter, because now Fancy is happy to have several friends, a good family to take care of her, lots of toys, and lots of space to run and play. Life is good.
Kathy Hendricks has written a delightful puppy story. Fancy Finds Some Friends: Life of Fancy 2 teaches us about puppies and their overly abundant energy. Puppies love attention and they love activity, too. Fancy is much like any other child in her need for love, companionship, and activity. The illustrations are beautiful and complement the story. While Fancy explores the area around her home, she learns about the other animals, lessons she shares in this story for young readers. Coupled with a little bit of humor, this story is both charming and beautifully told. It also helps that Fancy is very photogenic, as all of the illustrations are photographs of this lovely puppy. Cute story.
