In Finding Evie by Catina Noble, Evie was always the main focus of her father’s anger and abuse. Evie and her sisters only had two meals per day. There were nights when Evie had to go to bed without dinner as punishment. Evie would sell small stuff around the house to buy food for them. One night she knew she had to make a decision. She sensed that something was different and had a bad feeling that developing events were not going to end well. Her father threatened to slice her throat if she tried to leave the house, breaking a beer bottle and lunging at her with a big shard of glass. Evie went to stay with her friend PJ, but when she went home to pick up her stuff, her mother would only allow her to take a few outfits and some personal items.
The plot in Finding Evie by Catina Noble is traumatic and sad. The story is easy to read and follow. It is a real page-turner and I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. The characters were authentic, and I could relate to them. My favorite character was Evie, who is a very strong young lady. She put her traumatic past behind her and turned her situation around. Evie was able to graduate and better herself in life. The story is well written, and the sensitive topic of abuse is skillfully handled. Catina described the events in detail and I felt part of Evie’s life. This story far exceeded my expectations and I was pleased to discover that Evie was striving toward a better future.
