Finding Hanna's Happy Place by Andy M. Riley is a charming tale that captures the essence of a child's journey to understand and articulate her emotions through an imaginative quest. Illustrated by Sue Murphy, this children's book uses vibrant visuals to complement the story's exploration of feelings and self-discovery. The story follows young Hanna, who, despite being surrounded by toys and her faithful dog, Puppy B, finds herself overwhelmed by feelings of sadness and frustration. Her journey begins in the safety of her home but quickly moves outdoors, a subtle nod to the healing power of nature suggested by her mother. As Hanna ventures into the wider world, each encounter with a whimsical forest creature offers her insights into different ways of finding joy and contentment.

Hanna's interactions with the animals she meets are marked by curiosity and a gentle imparting of wisdom. Each shares its version of a "Happy Place." These episodes beautifully showcase a variety of life's simple pleasures and emphasize the importance of understanding one's emotions. Andy M. Riley’s narrative excels in weaving together a series of playful and educational encounters with a deeper message about emotional resilience and self-awareness. What makes this book particularly appealing is its dual layer of storytelling. It's an adventure filled with fun and interesting animal friends for children. For adults, it's a guide to helping children navigate their feelings and find comfort in their environments. Finding Hanna's Happy Place is an insightful, engaging book that tackles the complex issue of emotional development in children with a tender narrative that encourages them to find happiness within themselves and their loved ones.
