Fire, Pain, & Ruin: A Rutherford Manor Novel is a work of fiction in the horror, supernatural and suspense sub-genres, and was penned by author Konn Lavery. The work is intended for adult reading audiences due to the use of explicit language and graphic scenes of violence, sex, and death, as well as some references to abuse. Intense and exciting, the plot follows a new generation at Rutherford Manor as the Savidge family raise their twin girls with the hopes of finding some peace and quiet. But Lisa and Louise encounter new families in the town and new secrets which will lead them to unlock a terrifying evil that lurks beyond their world.
Author Konn Lavery has crafted a masterful work of paranormal horror and family saga which delivers everything its terrifying cover and premise promises. I found myself immediately invested in the peculiar family and their strange experimentations, and the relative normalcy of the twins who were slowly getting curious about what lurks out there. The novel has some really harrowing moments and nail-biting tension, and the pacing of events was really excellent to deliver a full range of heart-thumping action and suspenseful exposition scenes. It’s quite literally a book that makes you want to hide behind the sofa, and yet the drama is too compelling to put down. Overall, I would highly recommend Fire, Pain, & Ruin as a satisfying and emotive work from a highly accomplished author, and one which will give you nightmares long after you’ve left it behind.
