The Gathering of the Damned is the third book in The Flock Trilogy by Jana Petken. The Sagrat militia is no longer hunting for Alejandro, and they are back in Valencia. The problem is that they have become the hunted. During the funeral of the Inquisitor, Rafael Perato is kidnapped and while time runs swiftly out, he is still to understand what the enemy wants from him. While trying to find Rafael, David Sanz tumbles on a very dark secret and his life is in grave danger. Will he run for his life or pursue the course of locating Rafael? The scene is set for dramatic, breathtaking action, with characters that compel readers to follow their every step.

The Gathering of the Damned is no doubt a satisfying conclusion for those who have read the first and second books. This is the first book I have read in the trilogy and the feel of it is electrifying. I don’t doubt that the previous books have been as tightly written and cunningly plotted as this one. The reader is plunged into a world where nothing is as it seems, with intrigue and betrayals that no one sees coming. Here is a book that is well-written, and it is interesting how the author combines different genres into one, bringing powerful historical elements into a work of mystery. The plot is intricately done and written to perfection, with each scene focused and packed with action and emotion. Jana Petken’s unique phraseology and world building are among the qualities of the writing that had me riveted. The dialogues feel real and the characters very human. The Gathering of the Damned: The Flock Trilogy Book 3 is a real page-turner; action-packed and engrossing.
