Fluke Family Sorcerer is the fifth book in The Saga of Maynerd Dumsted by Robert A.G. Erickson. Despite winning the battle against the Demons of the Deep, Maynerd Dumsted only has a few weeks to live due to the Fluke Family Curse. After teaching a couple of young shapeshifting dragons to hunt, he is approached by his beloved, Mithra, who seeks his help in regaining her inheritance: her father's trade riches. Aboard the Fyre Mayden, Maynerd and his friends soon embark on a journey to the Owenrod Castle in Ashrhine City. But they barely escape with their lives as an unseen entity pulls the strings from the shadows. Meanwhile, his former lover Eccho is held captive by a couple of guild assassins. Maynerd must now use every resource at his disposal to defeat the dreaded Anointing.
Author Robert A.G. Erickson creates a vast and vivid world full of shapeshifting dragons, dangerous assassins, cunning sorcerers, and a host of otherworldly magical creatures that will appeal to every fantasy lover. The plot takes a while to get going, but the narrative gathers momentum with each turn of the page. I was utterly impressed by the scope of the story and Erickson's highly imaginative worldbuilding. Like all great fantasy books, Fluke Family Sorcerer draws the reader in with an immersive world and an intricate plot containing awe-inspiring magical sequences, close friendships, intoxicating romance, a plethora of magical creatures, and plenty of action. If you're a fantasy lover, give The Saga of Maynerd Dumsted a shot.
