Forced Reaction by Steve W. Allen is a mystery thriller packed full of suspense. Luke has won the US National Lottery but it isn’t too long before he realizes he shouldn’t be celebrating just yet. Other winners appear to be dying at an unprecedented rate, all in separate accidents. Suddenly he finds that he is next on the list to be removed and decides that he isn’t going down without a fight. He discovers corruption on a huge scale, corruption that leads to the White House. He bands together with others and, as a team, they go on a mercy mission, a mission to save their own lives while attempting to stop the US economy from collapsing. Using weapons and technology, Luke plans to take the assassins out while trying to stay clear of them. His lottery ticket was worth $5 million a year for life – wouldn’t you do the same thing?

Forced Reaction by Steve W. Allen was a pretty good read. It was an interesting story, made all the more so by the fact that it could be already happening and, if it isn’t, it could be one day. I enjoyed the story, and found it to be well written and the characters well developed, lending themselves well to the setting of the story. I must say, and I don’t know if other readers will pick up on it, but I thought there was more than a hint of personal experience included in the book. I can’t pin my finger on anything specific, it was just a general feeling I got while reading it. Good book though, and I look forward to reading more.

Forced Reaction by Steve W. Allen is a fast-moving, exciting adventure. Luke Monroe is your average guy, a workaholic who loves cars, sports and the great outdoors. On his 40th birthday, he is surprised by his friends and colleagues. He thought a birthday dinner inside a renovated bank vault was cool, but that is small compared to what happens next. His ex-wife gets him a national lottery ticket as a gift, and he wins! Luck is luck, right? Luke resigns from his IT job, blesses his friends with special gifts and buys his dream car. Content, happy and alone, Luke turns into a millionaire loner. Until he attends a lottery reunion in Las Vegas. Enter Holly, a rare classic beauty. Everything is wonderful, except Luke has no idea of the hidden political agenda behind his winnings. A menacing plot emerges that could collapse the whole US economy and cost him his life. Luke’s good luck turns bad - car chases, Russian assault weapons - someone is out to kill him.

Forced Reaction has all the ingredients of an action adventure thriller. Steve W. Allen lures you into the plot from the opening sequence. Then he meticulously reels you in with clever, subtle hints of what is yet to come – boom ... you're hooked. Although the conflict is man against man, I sensed the inner conflict of man against fate or destiny as well. The power of greed is the underlying message (theme) subtly woven throughout the text. The characters are introduced and developed with finesse. They are smart, beautiful, and classy, countered by arrogant, greedy and downright evil characters. The plot is creative and intriguing, full of information, but far from being boring. Allen throws in some great one of a kind metaphors, keeping it interesting. Forced Reaction reads like an action adventure movie. It is a maze of action, with surprising unknown factors waiting around the bend. Full of dangerous scenes – high speed chases, bullets flying, helicopters and even a harrier jet; this novel is an enthralling “what’s gonna happen next” escapade. Allen closes with a great set of lines and then tops it off with a perfect ending.
