A growing enterprise can become unstructured if it loses focus. Founder Frameworks: A Playbook for Building and Scaling Your Business by Vivek Ananth provides the tools for structuring any business to achieve stability and direction. This book aims to point the founder in the right direction by aligning vision and aspirations with reality. It achieves this by examining goals, identifying potential weaknesses, and matching long-term strategy with short-term action. This involves constant evaluation, correction, and refinement. Plans should be reviewed daily and weekly, creating momentum that can be extended to align with monthly, quarterly, and annual objectives. Each day becomes a building block. This provides focus, ensures agility, and avoids distractions. Evaluating performance is important, and percentages can be applied to each task undertaken to measure success levels. Standard Operating Procedures can be put in place to provide guidelines. Mitigation strategies are included in case things go wrong.

Vivek Ananth identifies three types of founders: the Dreamer, the Guardian, and the Doer, examining the way each conceptualizes the business. Their different perspectives make for an interesting comparison, and the diverse approaches are evaluated when reviewing the numerous practical examples drawn from a variety of industries. Flow charts, checklists, and concise explanations are a prominent feature of this book, presenting a logical framework for action. Space is provided to record the reader’s situation. The methodology is driven by several acronyms, which set out the steps to be followed. Techniques such as ECG and KISS are described, and scenarios are outlined. While providing a structure that will focus management action, some entrepreneurial types may feel that they are restrictive and lacking flexibility, and the terminology may not be familiar to all readers. Nevertheless, Founder Frameworks provides the basis for a review by any organization to establish a sound operating structure.
