Having friends helps children develop emotionally and socially. Interaction with other people serves to test our different ways of relating to others. By connecting with friends, children learn to set standards, evaluate alternatives, and make decisions. Friendship Rules explains the characteristics that every friendship should have. The story is told from the perspective of a child who learned the friendship rules in class. He writes them down so as not to forget them and shares them with the reader. Kimberly Davis-Peters offers five useful tips with brief explanations. Through this story, readers will learn empathy and respect and develop the habit of sharing with others.

I recommend Friendship Rules because it can help children lose the fear of interacting with others. During childhood, it is normal to experience anger, fear, or rejection when children begin to mix socially. Generally, this happens because they do not know how to act, as everything is new to them. I enjoyed the way Kimberly Davis-Peters explains that good friends stand out more by their actions than by their words and shows children how to behave as a good friend would. Young readers will learn how to act appropriately and will see that friendship is a great treasure to be cultivated. With the courage to make new friends, children will form groups that will improve their self-esteem, practice working as a team and will be able to face difficult moments if they are misunderstood by their peers.
