Packed with short stories, each in German with an English translation, this book is aimed at learners up to the intermediate level. The book includes an introduction to the Black Forest, and each story is prefaced by a list of featured words in German and English. The translations are paragraph by paragraph, making it simple to follow and learn. At the end of the book is a handy glossary of vocabulary words. Following this book will give you an excellent head start in grasping the basics of the German language in a short time, especially if you follow the suggested schedule.
German Short Stories in the Black Forest by Black Swan Languages is one of the best language-teaching books I’ve ever read. I moved abroad several years ago and wish I’d had a simple book like this to teach me my new language! This is an easy book to follow, allowing you to learn in small chunks at a time. Rather than having to learn a whole page of text, you simply do it one paragraph at a time, choosing when to move on at your own pace. The list of featured words at the start of each chapter helps focus the mind, and the glossary at the end is very useful. I enjoyed the chapter on the Black Forest, too, and found it informative. I would recommend this book for complete beginners and those looking for a refresher course on German.
