Glen Copple, like many of us, was “raised in the church.” A sign which hung in the church read, “Only one life, will soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last!” That sign called to him over and over. He served as pastor at a Christian Church in California for three years. During that time his ministry concentrated on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The time came when he realized he was called to teach others about Jesus. Writing, promoting, and marketing Getting To Know Jesus has become his full time ministry. In the future he would like to add a video to complement the study.

Getting To Know Jesus: Building Your Relationship With the Son of God Vol. 1 by Glen Copple is a workbook/study guide of the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The author has skillfully placed the events in Christ’s life in chronological order. He takes into account the original audience and also pulls in Old Testament passages as references. The object is to see Jesus through the eyes of the original believers. While this book can be used for individual study, I think a group study would enhance the information provided. The author suggests keeping the group to not more than twelve individuals. This is not for a lecture class but a discussion group. As with all Bible Study, prayer plays an important part and should be included in this study. The author’s intended audience is non-denominational.

The study begins with an outline that lays the Gospels side by side. Each session has a lesson plan: lesson objectives, commentary, questions and room to record your answers, and homework.

I can relate to Copple. At one time I thought I was to preach but have since discerned that I am called to teach. His book Getting To Know Jesus is well organized. I would recommend this for a Sunday School Class or a Small Group Study. The questions are meant to make the participant think and dig deeper. I like this study, and if I were teaching Sunday School at this time, I would use this as my literature.
