Howarth and Laurie Johnson work well together to cover a wide variety of relationship types, and their smoothly combined style makes for a refreshingly honest take on the realities of love and commitment. I liked the interactive ‘reality check’ style of the text and the way it encourages reflection and filling in your own questions at the end of each important section. The segments themselves are far-reaching, thought-provoking, and insightful. I was impressed to see everything from typical matters of money, kids, and marriage covered right through to baggage, mental illness, deviance, and scams. This encompasses modern complications well and is always respectful of the reader in offering valuable wisdom for building strong, lasting relationships between people who are bound to be very different in the way the modern world affects them. Overall, Happily Ever After: A Reality Check is highly recommended as a must-read for anyone tired of unrealistic relationship expectations. There’s no better place to start than with this book.
