In Karen Janowsky's modern romance titled Her Name Was Lola, at twenty-two, Lola took her second major step toward adulthood: she decided to stop being a virgin and start acting like an adult. Lola continued to pursue her dream of having her fairy tale come true before graduating from college while pursuing a degree in library science. At a conference, Lola fell in love with Professor Vance. Their night together did not turn out the way Lola had hoped, and she was devastated. Lola was astonished to find out that Professor Vance was the one she would be working with as a research assistant for the year. In their professional connection, it was hard to ignore each other, and only time would tell if Lola's fairy tale would come true.

I was engrossed in Karen Janowsky's Her Name Was Lola from the very first chapter due to its captivating and intriguing plot. The narrative flowed smoothly and was quite engaging. Fairy tales were beautifully interwoven throughout the storyline and were evident in both Lola's and Vance's thoughts and deeds. Vance's area of expertise was fairy tales by Hans Christian Anderson, and he and Lola brought it up often in conversation. I was able to identify with the major characters since they were well-developed and realistic. Despite having mixed feelings toward certain characters, I continued to support them all. I was excited to watch Lola and Vance's relationship develop and to see if Lola would find her fairy tale. The story was most enjoyable to read and was masterfully crafted.
