His Scarred Soul: Brandt (A Steamy Fling turned Forever Contemporary Western Romance) by Sharla Wylde is the fourth book in The Tanners series. David Brandt has physical and emotional scars stemming from his time in the marines. In local business owner Abby, he finds some peace, but he is afraid to see their relationship as anything other than friends with benefits. Abby is helping David in rehabbing his house, but after two failed marriages she is not eager to jump into another serious relationship. They are both determined to keep their fling casual. Together David and Abby navigate this relationship through family drama, their jobs, and even some wild animal encounters. With many twists and turns in the plot and secrets being revealed, they both realize they have stronger feelings for one another than they initially thought.
The chemistry and evolution of the main characters in His Scarred Soul are very well written and flow smoothly. This book will appeal to all those die-hard romantics out there. Being a fairly short book, I feel that some aspects were a bit rushed and I would have enjoyed a more detailed approach to the storyline of David’s sister. The element of suspense was a welcome addition and added to this book's appeal. I enjoyed the parts where the Tanners made an appearance and look forward to delving into their books a bit more. Overall, this book has a good storyline, it's enjoyable, entertaining, and easy to follow. I would recommend it to others and am looking forward to reading more books by Sharla Wylde.
