Jacquie Biggar’s Hold 'Em: A Gambling Hearts Romance is a sexy opposites-attract adventure that die-hard romantics will devour. Matthew Shaughnessy loves his family and to make his way in the world supporting his family’s ranch, he becomes a high-stakes poker player. Cassandra Gardener is in Vegas with her father planning her upcoming wedding when he joins a poker game, which doesn’t go as he thought. Matthew bit off more than he could chew when he won Cassandra in the game. Cassandra has no choice but to play along for the week that Matthew had stipulated to clear her father's gambling debt and protect his reputation. To do this, she pretends to be Matthew’s fiancée and this reassures his grandmother that he is happy and settled.
In Hold 'Em, Jacqui Biggar has created lovely characters all-round. Matthew and Cassandra are complete opposites. He was raised on a ranch and loves that life dearly, while Cassandra is a city girl through and through. I loved the dynamic between these two characters and you can feel the tension and attraction between them from the start. The story is a wonderful depiction of a child's love for their parents and grandparents, and I loved that both characters' families played a large role in the plot. As they start to fall in love, I appreciated the fact that Cassandra is not unfaithful to her fiancé. Even though her feelings change, she still stays true to him until she can sit him down and explain her change of heart. I enjoyed this story immensely and look forward to reading more in this series.
