We all have at least one family member who says things that make us cringe, blush, or want to strangle the life out of them. It is a fact of life, but Gwynn Flannigan has an obstinate father who puts the stereotypical drunk uncle to shame. Gwynn has dreams of being a world class cake decorator and now that dear old Dad has sold the family business, Sweet Endings ice-cream shop, right from under her management, it is time for Gwynnie to decide where her life is going. When big city Cole Marshall comes to the town of Madrigal to finalize the sale, he gets more than he bargains for in the form of feisty Gwynn and the small-town charm of Madrigal, Indiana. Sandra Sookoo paints a pretty picture of the sassy small-town girl falling for the hard-edged city boy in Hollywood Dreams and Buttercream.
The sparks — and the accusations — begin to fly when Gwynn finally goes for her goal and enters a cake decorating competition. She finds that her culinary idol is none other than the man she’s lost her heart to. What Sandra Sookoo excels at in this story is presenting characters who are full of flaws, demons, and weaknesses without making them weak. Cole keeps his heart guarded because of his bleak childhood while Gwynn can’t seem to get her father’s disparaging remarks out of her mind. Together they somehow bring out the best in each another in Hollywood Dreams and Buttercream, if they could just get out of their own way and let love handle the rest.
Sookoo has created a great getaway filled with decadent desserts, sensual kisses, and good old-fashioned love.
