Sophia Alexander's Homespun spins a moving, character-rich tale that involves family drama, crime, and a thrilling climactic ending. Something evil is happening in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, and Vivian's job as a journalist is to investigate and uncover such stories. Ginny's request to go out with a new friend is met with opposition from her father when he learns he's a Caddell. Jack Caddell asks Ginny's father but is told, "She ain’t goin’ out with any o’ you Caddell folk." On hearing this, he wonders if his problematic Uncle Zingle is the reason for the man's response. What exactly is brewing in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, and what lies in store for Jack and Ginny's relationship as they suffer the negative consequences of others' past and future sins?

With an air of mystery embedded in the story from the beginning, Homespun ensures you stay to the end to unravel what becomes of its characters. Following the plot's constant shifts between characters, times, and themes, I looked forward to discovering how they all came together. Furthermore, its characters deal with provocative, challenging situations that envelop you in a multilayered plot. I especially felt for a couple struggling with affording a home and a woman defending herself against a rapist. In general, I loved every aspect of the book apart from its rapid pace. Besides being a highly suspense-filled and dramatic tale, Homespun brings our attention to how our actions, directly and indirectly, affect our families and loved ones. I am eager to read Sophia's next book and immerse myself in another addictive read.
