How Do I Take Care of Me? by Yerachmiel Altman is an informative book that tells young readers about Type 1 diabetes and how to take care when you have Type 1 diabetes. The story is told from the point of view of two dolls, out of which one had diabetes since she was two. She shares the rules through this book. She fell sick one day, she was too tired to walk and wanted to drink and drink. Her mother took her to the doctor and he checked her blood using a machine. The machine said there was sugar in her blood and the doctor said he would give her a special medication in a needle which would make her feel better. Diabetes arises when your body stops making insulin and you need to take medication. This book is good for both children and adults as well when it comes to learning more about Type 1 diabetes.
The book is written using rhyming verses that explain everything about diabetes to young readers in an engaging way, making it easy for them to understand diabetes, its symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. The illustrations are equally helpful when it comes to understanding diabetes and how to take care. It is an excellent book to have in one's personal collection at home, especially if there are children with diabetes, as the book makes it easy for parents to explain to their children about diabetes. The author handles the topic in a light way with some humor, making it easy for children to understand the diagnosis and treatment. It is a good book to read out loud in classrooms to help children understand diabetes in a fun way.
