Ichi-ban Goes Hiking in the Fall by Julie Maurer is the second book in the Ichi-ban series. Ichi-ban is happy because Mom is taking her on a fall hike in the Colorado Mountains. It’s a long drive but when they finally get there, Ichi-ban is so excited to see her friends. Join Ichi-ban as she tells you about her hike, all the different wildlife she meets along the way, and her adventures in the river. And when the long day is over, and they finally go home, Ichi-ban can sleep and dream of her wonderful fall hike.

Ichi-Ban Goes Hiking in the Fall by Julie Maurer is a wonderfully illustrated story about a lovely dog and her adventures. The story is told from Ichi-ban’s perspective, starting with a lesson on how - and how not – to pronounce her name. All the dogs and people in the story are real, and the stories are based on their adventures. Along the way, readers will learn about nature in the Colorado Mountains and the wildlife that lives there. This story will excite kids who love animals and nature and might even go some way toward helping them learn to protect our natural spaces and animals. The story is written in simple language, and difficult names are followed with help in pronouncing them. It’s an easy book to read, telling a story that kids will want to read over and over again. It may even inspire them to go on hikes of their own and learn more about the natural world and how to enjoy it responsibly. A lovely story and highly recommended reading.
