Petrina Soren had lost her parents in space at a young age and had ended up being raised in an orphanage. Now a teenager, she goes to Attike space station, the headquarters of the Intergalactic Coalition of Planets and its Space Forces, to apply to the Space Force Academy. It is then that she learns about Ebbit Soren, her great-great-great-great grandfather. Ebbit had been trapped around a black hole for nearly a century, and the Space Force had never bothered to initiate a rescue. Determined to rescue her only surviving relative, Petrina ventures into a daring mission that involves stealing a spacecraft from the Forces. But that’s not all. Soon, she is enrolled in the academy and is assigned to work as a space explorer. Is she ready for the intergalactic conflicts and extraterrestrial threats coming her way? Find out in Victoria Randall’s The Petrina Chronicles.
Lovers of young adult science fiction novels with a touch of suspense, adventure, and space opera intrigue will find Victoria Randall’s The Petrina Chronicles an enthralling read. Randall introduces readers to a fascinating cast in an interesting plot. The scenes are brought to life with vivid depictions, making me feel like I was next to the cast in every scene, watching the action unfold. I was drawn into a world of space pirates, hostile aliens, mysterious cosmic phenomena, espionage, betrayal, interplanetary war, and much more. The conversations were lively, authentic, and witty. They gave depth to the cast’s conflicts. Randall harnesses sentiment to the narration, allowing me to experience the cast’s emotions. Juxtaposing their complex traits made it easy to connect with them. Petrina may be young and inexperienced, but when her family is involved, that will not stop her from pulling off a mission so dangerous that not even the Space Force would dare to try it.
