Petrina Soren had lost her parents in space at a young age and had ended up being raised in an orphanage. Now a teenager, she goes to Attike space station, the headquarters of the Intergalactic Coalition of Planets and its Space Forces, to apply to the Space Force Academy. It is then that she learns about Ebbit Soren, her great-great-great-great grandfather. Ebbit had been trapped around a black hole for nearly a century, and the Space Force had never bothered to initiate a rescue. Determined to rescue her only surviving relative, Petrina ventures into a daring mission that involves stealing a spacecraft from the Forces. But that’s not all. Soon, she is enrolled in the academy and is assigned to work as a space explorer. Is she ready for the intergalactic conflicts and extraterrestrial threats coming her way? Find out in Victoria Randall’s The Petrina Chronicles.

Lovers of young adult science fiction novels with a touch of suspense, adventure, and space opera intrigue will find Victoria Randall’s The Petrina Chronicles an enthralling read. Randall introduces readers to a fascinating cast in an interesting plot. The scenes are brought to life with vivid depictions, making me feel like I was next to the cast in every scene, watching the action unfold. I was drawn into a world of space pirates, hostile aliens, mysterious cosmic phenomena, espionage, betrayal, interplanetary war, and much more. The conversations were lively, authentic, and witty. They gave depth to the cast’s conflicts. Randall harnesses sentiment to the narration, allowing me to experience the cast’s emotions. Juxtaposing their complex traits made it easy to connect with them. Petrina may be young and inexperienced, but when her family is involved, that will not stop her from pulling off a mission so dangerous that not even the Space Force would dare to try it.

Petrina Soren is determined to become a pilot for the Space Force of the Intergalactic Coalition of Planets. She has taught herself to fly a spaceship, among many other things, after losing her parents at a young age. Yet, no one takes Petrina seriously in the Space Academy. She sees a portrait of one of the commanders of the past and learns that he was her great-great-great-great-grandfather, Ebbit Soren, who got stuck in the black hole more than a hundred years ago. Petrina "borrows" a spaceship and heads to the black hole to save her only relative. Petrina and the ship's AI, Selka, must accomplish the operation the Space Force considered impossible. It will change Petrina's life and mark the beginning of incredible and hazardous adventures in the fascinating alien worlds. The Petrina Chronicles by Victoria Randall will appeal to young adult fans of science fiction, action, adventure, and coming-of-age stories.

The Petrina Chronicles is a riveting and fast-paced read. Victoria Randall blends science fiction with other genres, like fantasy and horror. Every chapter offers a stand-alone adventure, yet the chapters have interconnecting sub-plots and topics, such as duty and family values. The author's imaginative prose surprises with the variety of alien species. I especially like the enigmatic Feia inhabiting the planet Arbold VI and the plant-like Fraxinas from the planet Arboria. Randall crafts remarkable characters. Petrina is a self-taught survivor who can make decisions quickly. She is an outgoing and self-confident young woman without any arrogance. Petrina is bright, and her ancestor, Ebbit, can always count on her. Petrina never underestimates the scale of danger during her missions and takes the risk knowingly. These traits make her a perfect heroine for young adult readers. Her adventures include enthralling investigations of mysteries and moral lessons that give us food for thought.

The Petrina Chronicles by Victoria Randall follows Petrina, a determined young pilot who breaks the rules to save her ancestor, who’s been stuck near a black hole for a hundred years. She sets off on a risky journey, facing aliens, space pirates, and all kinds of dangers—plus an AI companion who really doesn’t want to help. Randall creates a fast-paced, exciting sci-fi adventure filled with action, humor, and heart. Petrina is the kind of hero you can’t help but root for as she pushes through impossible challenges. The story mixes classic space opera vibes with fresh ideas about time, artificial intelligence, and the way family bonds can stretch across time itself, making it feel both familiar and completely new.

Victoria Randall’s storytelling is bold and full of imagination, taking classic sci-fi ideas and giving them a fresh spin. Her characters are fun and memorable, especially Selka, the reluctant AI whose sarcastic attitude brings a lot of humor to the story. The pacing is spot on, with action moments balanced by quieter, emotional scenes that let you connect with Petrina and understand what drives her. One thing that stood out to me was how the book explains tricky science concepts without making them feel too complicated or slowing down the story. It all fits naturally, so even readers who don’t usually go for hard sci-fi will enjoy it. Overall, The Petrina Chronicles is an exciting mix of adventure, heart, and creative worldbuilding that makes it a must-read I highly recommend to young adult sci-fi fans.
