Imp’s Adventures: Imp Finds a Friend by Mary Pat Kanaley is the second book in the delightful series that follows one little mouse on various adventures that come with a fun drawing opportunity and an important life lesson. Imp realizes that he doesn’t want to play alone anymore, but everyone is too busy to play with him. All he wants is someone that will play with him and that he can talk to. When his sister comes home from school, even she doesn’t have time for him. She has her own friend to play with. Imp and his pet grasshopper are playing with blocks and colors when he realizes something very important: he’s ready to find his very own friend.
This is an important story for small children as they embark on finding their first friend. The illustrations are lovely and detailed to show how lonely and sad Imp is while wishing to find someone to play with. Hopper is his pet grasshopper and his trusty sidekick through every adventure, which gives him a constant companion. With no idea what to do, Imp goes back through his secret tunnel that leads to a classroom, only this time he receives an amazing surprise. They meet a little turtle that lives inside a tank within the classroom. Mary Pat Kanaley depicts the little turtle in the cutest illustration that shows him with little red glasses and an adorable turtleneck under his shell. The story ends with a few turtle facts that children will enjoy learning and a fun lesson in shapes, which includes an art lesson in how to draw turtles. Imp Finds a Friend is a sweet story about friendship that teaches children how to play with anyone, regardless of what they look like.
