In the Heart of the Linden Wood by Ekta R. Garg follows King Christopher of Linden who, still mourning his deceased beloved wife, Queen Lily, and their newborn she was delivering, faces a new crisis: the once vibrant Linden Wood is wilting, turning wooden artifacts to ash. Together with Martin, head of Linden Guard, they consult the Keeper of the Wood, the forest's dying guardian, and learn her health mirrors that of the forest. The cure lies in retrieving the Keeper's lost heart, stolen due to past betrayal. With Alistair, the Keeper's confidant, and Geraldine, a healer burdened by failing Queen Lily, they set off on a quest to restore the heart and save both the Keeper and the forest.

In the Heart of the Linden Wood by Ekta R. Garg is the stuff that Disney animated features are made of, but is cinematically depicted in well-crafted prose, which makes it so much better. This isn't just a story about a king’s heroic journey; it is a poignant tale of overcoming emotional turmoil. King Christopher's quest is to save his realm, but it also runs parallel to saving himself from all-encompassing grief. The novel's emotional depth is huge and propels the narrative, extending beyond the plot and character vehicles, and could be more accurately described as "emotion-driven." The exploration of love, loss, the power of belief, the purpose of persevering, and the death of an environment put Garg and her novel in another league of fantasy. Very highly recommended.
