In the Tree's Shadow is a collection of 27 short stories by D.L. Finn. Having been dealt a bad hand in life until now, a divorced woman sets off to start anew when she comes across a gift from her late grandmother. During a playdate with another woman and her son, a mother begins to have second thoughts when she realizes she is also a part of the nightmarish reality. A writer discovers that reality is stranger than fiction after a walk in the woods with her dog. Without power or the internet, and with earthquakes all over, a woman searches for answers when her husband's arrival brings news of a darker turn of events. A young girl struggles to escape the wrath of her alcoholic and unhinged mother when she meets a mysterious boy.

Flavored with thrills, mystery, and a tinge of the surreal, In the Tree's Shadow is a captivating short story collection that touches upon various genres. These 27 stories follow characters in different phases of their lives, finding themselves in extraordinary situations that test the boundaries of their humanity in more ways than one. D.L. Finn doesn't take too much time to draw the reader into the story, and within a few pages, the author creates an immersive atmosphere and setting that keep you hooked until the end. Finn also traverses fantasy and sci-fi genres in some of these tales. Overall, I found In the Tree's Shadow to be an absorbing collection that short story lovers are bound to enjoy.
