In this second book of Jennifer Quintenz's Daughter's of Lilith series, Braedyn Murphy was just your average girl, living in a small town and knowing that there had to be more to life than her sleepy town of Puerto Escondido. Of course, her whole life got turned upside down when she found out that she was a descendant of Lilith. Bound by her heritage, she struggles to defend humanity against her fellow daughters of Lilith, also known as the Lilitu. Her fight is on multiple sides, as she battles her own inner desires to steal souls, especially that of her boyfriend Lucas. Braedyn is grasping at her last straw of hope when she asks the help of an angel to make her fully human, but then has to battle her guilt. If she doesn't protect the world from the other Lilitu, who will? Now an Incubus is in town, causing all kinds of trouble. Braedyn is in a race against the clock to discover this Incubus' identity before he steals more souls.
I really enjoyed the pacing of this book. I had to go back and read Book One (I hate reading a series out of order), and Incubus is really well paced. There is mystery, action, plot twists...everything a story needs really. And the best part was that you would find yourself wrapped up in the story. There weren't any parts that dragged, or rushed. You just enjoyed a solid story, told in a cool and well built world of fantasy. I really enjoyed that.
Jennifer Quintenz is a very skilled writer. She had a way of twisting words and phrases, so that even when you KNEW who the killer was, she made you second guess yourself and wonder if there could be other possibilities. Her writing style is lyrical and fluid and I had absolutely no problem slipping into Braedyn's head for her adventures. Incubus, and its prequel Thrall, are great additions to the canon of paranormal literature.
