Lee Orlich Bertram presents a collection of riveting poems with Insistence, Persistence, and Resistence. This book contains observational poetry that touches upon themes of love, family, society, nature, heritage, and more. "A Toss of the Salad" follows the story of a young girl watching in awe and wonder as her grandmother tenderly prepares a salad with love and care. The titular poem "Insistence, Persistence, and Resistance" sheds light on the dichotomy in families between the ideals of parents and their children. "Upon Hearing Barack's Words" is a cautionary poem highlighting the threats to American democracy from radical political factions determined to seize power by any means. "Seduction by Darkness" is a short poem about the alluring power of darkness. The narrator finds solace and comfort in the legacy of their ancestral heritage in "Reflections on Heritage."
Drawing from her own life experiences, Lee Orlich Bertram delivers a stimulating collection of poems that cover a broad range of topics and themes related to the human experience. Bertram displays a distinct lyrical flair that feels refreshingly authentic and invigorates your mind as well as your spirit. Most of the poems in this collection are intimate and personal, but due to the universal themes, readers will find it easy to engage and connect with Lee's poetic storytelling. Apart from a few poems that seem abstract and open to the reader's interpretation, most of these poems have clear underlying themes and topics that talk about personal experiences alongside observations on society, politics, and humanity. All in all, this is a fantastic debut poetry collection. I found it absolutely mesmerizing and can't recommend it highly enough!
