Intended Consequences by John Morelli is a crime thriller following the Arena family. The Arenas seemingly got their wealth overnight when their patriarch, Bill Arena, suddenly acquired a large block of shares in one of the world’s biggest and wealthiest tech companies, Campbell Computers, shocking the corporate world. However, this new wealth comes with problems because the Arena family is now the target of many powerful people with different grudges. When Bill’s son, Tom, suddenly goes missing, the Arenas race against time and will stop at nothing to find and bring him home with the help of their faithful security head, Vince.
One of the many things I love about Intended Consequences is its excellent storytelling. Morelli is a superb storyteller; the plot progressed smoothly and was fast-paced, with very vivid descriptions. It was so descriptive that I could easily see the story’s events unfold in my mind’s eye. I loved how the Arena family rallied together and put aside their differences when they were going through such a difficult time. Vincent was my favorite character; I thought he was such a tough cookie and very loyal to the Arena family. I thought of him as an anti-hero who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty for a cause he believed in. I also loved the mystery surrounding the exact details of how Bill got the Campbell shares; it made me come up with different theories of my own. All in all, Intended Consequences by John Morelli was a great read!
