Nilam Patel takes readers on a journey of self-discovery with this enthralling collection of poems that delve into various aspects of womanhood. Into Her Wild is divided into five sections, titled "Earth," "Water," "Fire," "Air," and "Space," signifying different phases of a woman's life. The first section opens with a compelling poem about the immigrant experience and continues to explore themes such as resilience, growth, and change. It highlights the importance of learning when to let go, learning to speak for oneself, never allowing toxicity to alter the best parts of oneself, and more. The collection follows the narrator's journey as she tries to break out of the cycle of patriarchy and become someone her children look up to. It also features poems about rising above societal expectations and empowering herself as a woman, as a goddess.
Into Her Wild is one of those poetry collections you want to revisit over and over again, and with each read, you will find something new to stimulate your mind and soul. Nilam Patel has a distinctive poetic flair that adds to the beauty of her verses and makes them riveting to read. You find yourself fully immersed in the poetic narratives as they navigate topics related to overcoming grief and heartache, searching for new adventures as one gets older, nostalgic remembrance of one's childhood, following one's inner voice, etc. Some of Patel's verses truly feel like affirmations, and the overall collection leaves you with a sense of hope that makes your heart soar. It's the second poetry collection I've read by Patel, and I can't choose which one I enjoyed more because both were simply wonderful. Highly recommended!
