In the novel Jane Austen, Time Traveler by Rachel Dacus, time traveler George St. James discovers that Jane Austen's novel has been rejected, and he becomes concerned about the impact it could have on literature and feminism. Determined to save her legacy, he travels back to 1802 to convince Jane of her glorious future. Offering publication, he takes her to a bookstore in 2024 Pasadena, where Jane encounters passionate fans and faces their critical judgments. Seeking new adventures and romance, Jane's journey takes unexpected turns as she navigates the changes in time. George's plan to inspire her writing takes a different path when Jane decides to forge her own destiny, leaving history to fend for itself. Along the way, she finds love with a devoted fan named Will Fleming, defying the expectations of her time.

Well, that was fun! I've read books about contemporary people time traveling to the Regency era and vice versa, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine coming across a book where one of the most famous and esteemed English authors in history would be the time traveler. And now here we are with Jane Austen, Time Traveler by Rachel Dacus. It's an absolute treat. I loved the fish out of water angle that is expected but given that this is Jane Austen, who is intelligent, spirited, wildly independent, and way ahead of her time to begin with, the transition feels organic even if Dacus makes it endearing, and quite funny. The writing is beautiful and reads like the classics. There is romance and moments of good frustration when the 'generation gap' provides subplots. This is a delightful read and Dacus can consider herself having gained a new fan. Very highly recommended.
