Davis Hall’s It Fell from the Sky opens a door into an incredibly hilarious and suspenseful young mystery. This is the first installment in JJ Sharple’s Mysteries. Hall wastes no time in a narrative that is as realistically complicated as the teenage girls themselves. The girls navigate family challenges, school pressures, work performance, and the search for identity. JJ often appears to be the strongest among them, but as the story unfolds, you will also discover hidden strengths in BooBoo and Gigi. Their investigation of the murder of the man who fell from the sky often takes a back seat in their lives as they deal with their own issues. And with each step forward as they investigate, they encounter more hurdles in their lives.

At its heart, JJ Sharple’s Mysteries: It Fell from the Sky is more than a YA high school drama. It explores the strength of friendship, acceptance of others, and integrity as the characters mature. Davis Hall's writing embraces the chaos JJ, Gigi, and BooBoo create, all while building suspense as they investigate a murder. Complicated pasts and family issues shape each girl, but they support and strengthen one another. The author has a unique way of bringing the characters to life, which makes each mishap even more enjoyable and endearing to the reader. This novel will satisfy any reader's craving for young adult suspense, while you laugh at each new mishap in their lives. I couldn’t put it down, and I savored each problem the characters solved or created.

JJ Sharple's Mysteries: It Fell From The Sky by Davis Hall is a captivating novel about JJ Sharple, BooBoo, and Gigi Reynoso, who live in Saint Mary Mack, a boring town. One mundane afternoon, they witness the horrifying incident of a body falling from a plane into a nearby field. When it happened, JJ, who always loved watching crime TV shows, saw it as an opportunity to investigate. She convinced her hesitant friends to join her. When they arrived at the scene, the body discovered was that of Morton Stubbs. JJ quickly realized that the man was dead before he ever hit the ground. This marks the beginning of their journey, in which they find themselves in a bigger conspiracy than they could ever imagine.

The title drew me in; from the very first chapter, the story was filled with suspense. JJ is one of the characters who made me love this book even more. She struggled with her past in foster care and her ongoing recovery from drug use, but she didn't let it stop her from seeking a better future for herself. This book explores themes of friendship, self-worth, and identity. The plot moved at a relentless pace, keeping me on the edge of my seat with unpredictable twists. Davis Hall’s writing style is straightforward, captivating, engaging, and detailed. The characters were easy to identify with; they felt real and made me connect more deeply to the story. I really admired BooBoo and Gigi; despite their own personal struggles, they still supported JJ in the investigation and showed their loyalty, even when it meant risking so much for their friend. I rooted for them throughout. The pacing was just enough to give me an amazing read. I recommend It Fell From The Sky to young adults and fans of suspense.

Seventeen-year-old Josephine Jane “JJ” Sharple lives in the small, dull town of Saint Mary Mack, Rhode Island. A foster kid with a messy past, JJ has been through countless families, battled substance abuse, and narrowly escaped death. Now sober and trying to piece her life back together, JJ spends most of her time with her unlikely new friends: BooBoo (Butterfly Buchanan), an anxious, asthmatic, and awkward rich girl with an expensive car, and Gigi Reynoso, a sarcastic, rebellious teen from a struggling household. One ordinary afternoon, they witness a body falling from a low-flying plane. Against BooBoo's and Gigi’s protests, JJ insists they investigate instead of immediately calling the police. As the girls fumble their way into amateur sleuthing, they uncover secrets that put them in real danger. Their friendship, sometimes messy, sometimes fragile, becomes the one stable thing they can rely on in Davis Hall’s JJ Sharple’s Mysteries: It Fell from the Sky.

It Fell from the Sky by Davis Hall is a lively, witty, and fast-paced young adult mystery that blends humour, teenage drama, family dysfunctions, and a heartfelt look at friendship and belonging. Themes of abandonment, parental neglect, anxiety, and the search for identity run throughout. The writing is fresh and conversational and told from the POVs of the besties. JJ, who hides her pain behind sarcasm, wrestles with abandonment and identity, especially after discovering that her birth records were mysteriously erased, making it impossible to trace her biological parents. BooBoo struggles with parental neglect despite her privileged background, while Gigi masks her insecurities with biting wit. The banter, vulnerability, and undercover sleuthing make this novel equal parts laugh-out-loud and genuinely dangerous. It Fell from the Sky is an engaging, clever murder mystery with a trio you won’t forget soon.

Josephine Jane “JJ” Sharple never knew her parents. Moving from one foster home to another didn’t help until a near-death experience forced her to pause and rethink her life. She has cut ties with her reckless old crowd and now finds comfort in a smaller circle of friends—Butterfly “BooBoo” Buchanan and Gigi Reynoso. The three girls enjoy the quiet that comes from spending time doing nothing, but deep down, JJ wants to make a name for herself. The chance comes when a body falls from a passing airplane and lands close to them. JJ encourages her friends to investigate the strange event, and that’s how their first real adventure begins. They have no idea how big the conspiracy they’ve stumbled into is, but one thing is for sure: life in the quiet community of St. Mary Mack will never be the same again in Davis Hall’s JJ Sharple’s Mysteries: It Fell from the Sky.

Davis Hall provides a detailed origin story for each of the girls, explaining the dynamics between JJ, BooBoo, and Gigi. Their witty dialogue, which covers concepts such as mind control, maintains a humorous tone, shifting between serious and comedic, often quickly descending into chaotic boy talk. An example of this is when the girls reach out to Gigi’s longtime rival for help. This unique dialogue style, combined with Gigi's and BooBoo’s tendency to butcher words, adds a realistic touch that will resonate with young readers. What stands out about It Fell from the Sky is the way Hall balances the humor with a mild romantic subplot that will appeal to readers, just as much as they will enjoy watching the girls set aside their flaws to work as a team. The author blends these elements seamlessly, using a relaxed storytelling approach and carefully placed clues to draw readers into the adventure. I enjoyed this fascinating novel.

JJ is a teenager with a troubled past, having lived her whole life in foster care and been through all sorts of issues. Her friends, Gigi and BooBoo, couldn't be more different: the former comes from a poor but welcoming household with a loving mother, while the latter is a wealthy young lady whose parents don't care much about her. JJ believes she's found the ticket to a better life when a corpse literally drops from the sky in front of her. Now she's committed to solving the mystery and finding justice for the poor man... and going viral on social media, starting a podcast, and maybe writing a book, as per Gigi's suggestion. Thus begins Davis Hall's JJ Sharple's Mysteries: It Fell from the Sky, a YA comedic mystery and teen drama following JJ's and her friends' adventures and misadventures.

Davis Hall's writing is sharp and irreverent, filled with unusual turns of phrase, witty commentary, and bizarre situations bordering on the surreal. The banter between the characters, especially the central trio, is one of the novel's highlights, letting us slowly learn about them and become invested through highly entertaining, fast-paced dialogue. That said, despite the plot's twists and turns, the characters are surprisingly grounded and fleshed out. The author knows when to hit the brakes and focus on the characters' struggles, insecurities, and doubts before diving back into the zaniness, balancing the lighter and darker aspects. This combination of drama and comedy creates hilarious and painful moments as JJ and her friends navigate the awkwardness of teenage life. It Fell from the Sky is an unconventional and engrossing mystery that should appeal to fans of young adult novels and offbeat comedy.
