Krymzyn (The Journals of Krymzyn Book 1) by BC Powell is a dark fantasy story. Chase is young when he has visions of a strange place with storm clouds, a field of red grass and really bright light. He could also see a girl kneeling in front of a huge tree surrounded by streams of light. Doctors think he is delusional, but Chase knows it's real and the girl is also real. But as years pass by, these memories stay in his mind and haunt him. One fine day Chase finds himself without any warning in a different world called Krymzyn. And here he meets a woman, Sash. And, strangely, she is the girl he saw when he was twelve. Sash guides him through his adventures in Krymzyn as he has to encounter the dark creatures living there. Will Chase be victorious in his mission and will Sash support him?
The plot is intriguingly mysterious. The different elements and the visions Chase experiences add to the plot. The language is exquisite and that complements the mysterious quality of the story, the characters and the scenes. Chase realizes that a lot of things don't happen in Krymzyn, such as people don't smile, and they don't draw pictures using pencil and paper. I found the story compelling and disturbing at the same time. The world of Krymzyn is unique and extraordinary and has been sketched well by the author, leaving readers curious and eager to know more about it.
