Kristen and Brett have just started their honeymoon in Reykjavik, Iceland, and can’t wait to experience everything this fascinating, natural, and beautiful city has to offer. However, Kristen tends to attract murder investigations, and it looks like this will happen to her again. In Land of Ice (Nature Station Mystery) by Jannifer Powelson, Kristen and Brett hear a scream while visiting the city's main church. Then they find themselves quickly enmeshed in the sudden death of a fellow vacationer. They consider a few reasons why this could have happened. Did he have a heart attack or a stroke? Maybe he slipped on the icy pavement and hit his head. But Kristen has a bad feeling that there is something more sinister going on, given her experience with murder victims. What if he was murdered? She is determined to get involved in the investigation and find out what happened to him, even if her new husband is not too keen on her plan.
In Land of Ice (Nature Station Mystery) by Jannifer Powelson, the author tells a delightful murder mystery story of a husband-and-wife team investigating as amateur sleuths. The plot is well-paced, using beautiful descriptions of Icelandic locations as a backdrop for the ugliness of a murder investigation. Several interesting characters appear, each with their own secrets, adding to the suspense. I particularly enjoyed the two police investigators’ dry wit as they tried, without success, to keep Kristen and Brett out of the investigation. As is common, and enjoyable, with good murder mysteries, there are a few twists and a surprising conclusion.
