Larkin’s Landing by SK Wee is a riveting mystery, with a sprinkling of romance, that commands the reader’s attention from the very first page. The central characters are two women, Fee and Tara, who could not be any more opposite in personality, behavior, and thought. Yet, somehow, they become friends over a tragedy that has befallen one of them prior to becoming acquainted. When a mystery surrounding a Tombora Springs landmark starts, the book really takes off. There is an urgent and desperate search for a killer with high stakes involved while the reader experiences characters mired in adultery, greed, and lust. Chapter by chapter the reader becomes more familiar with Fee and Tara as their most intimate secrets and ambitions are revealed. You will not be able to put this book down until you know what those secrets are.
Simply, SK Wee has made me a new fan of her writing! This is not a long read. The intricate and intimate plot of Larkin’s Landing has been masterfully woven by Wee. There is nothing superfluous here. The characters get down to business by putting the past behind them, finding new love interests, and becoming caught up in a small town murder mystery. Fee and Tara will become like your own friends as you cry in empathy with their grief and cheer them on toward new adventures and happiness as they leave behind dysfunctional relationships. Interesting and lovable characters? Compelling story line? Leaves you wanting more? YES, YES, YES! A must-read – you will not be disappointed.
