Homeschoolers, you have found a fantastic resource to teach your child how to read. Dalton Robert Downey provides a great service to teaching in Learn to Read and Write with CVC Word Activities. CVC stands for “consonant-vowel-consonant” words. Using the exercises found in this wonderful book will help your child to progress from these basic three-letter words to reading those that are more complicated. Dalton uses trace-and-write, sound boxes, word ladders, and word image match exercises to teach reading and writing skills. After completing all the activities, the parent or teacher can use the assessments at the back of the book. For fun, Dalton includes color-by-code reward pages.
Parents with small children are always looking for fun educational resources. Learn to Read and Write with CVC Word Activities is one such resource. To increase the usefulness of this book, Dalton Robert Downey allows the activity pages to be copied. Children will enjoy doing these various tasks. Learning is always more productive when it is also fun. Dalton’s book is also a wonderful opportunity to review the basics with older children. Repetition is the glue of memory, and using this book is strong glue. I taught Junior and Senior High School for several years and some students could have benefited from this book. My wife and I homeschooled our children from the mid-80s and all through the 90s. I wish this great book had been available then and I highly recommend it.
