Jessie Kravette’s Scrunchsnuggle: A Sister’s Hug, a Sister’s Love is a story about two sisters, Gracie and Jess, who truly enjoy each other’s company. They try to have imaginative adventures daily, like reading the Sunday comics together, playing dress-up, sneaking blackberries from a neighbor’s bushes, and having fairy picnics. The unique bond they share is obvious and highlighted when they flip roles one night, as Gracie is scared and Jess makes her feel better. The illustrations by Stephanie Rose perfectly show how much the girls care for one another. This is a heartwarming tale of sisterly love and connection.

This story warmed my heart. I really appreciated the sweet and authentic bond between the sisters and found myself smiling at their shared adventures and tender moments in ScrunchSnuggle. As an educator, I value children’s books that model empathy, imagination, and emotional resilience. This book does that in spades. Stories about siblings who take care of each other are sometimes hard to find. Jessie Kravette’s writing is refreshing. The role reversal that occurs when Jessie comforts Gracie when she is scared at bedtime is heartwarming and is a reminder that love and security can reciprocate in a sibling relationship, regardless of which sibling is older. I also liked how it introduced the word “scrunchsnuggle”, a playful and comforting term that shows how experiences can shape language. It could inspire conversations about kindness, bravery, and siblings. The illustrations add charm and emotion to each page. This book would make a wonderful classroom read-aloud or cozy bedtime story at home.

ScrunchSnuggle: A Sister's Hug, a Sister's Love by Jessie Kravette is a tale of two sisters. A young girl named Jess narrates the story of how she and her big sister, Gracie, used to "scrunchsnuggle" on the floor and read Sunday comics. While Jess would look at the pictures, Gracie would read the stories out loud for Jess. Whether it was playing with dolls or playing dress-up, the sisters had fun together. They also used to sneak into their neighbor's backyard to pick blackberries. Gracie would look after her sister every time they did something together. But when it was time for bed at night, Gracie was scared of the shadows she saw in their room. It was Jess who would reassure her and offer love and support with her scrunchsnuggles.

ScrunchSnuggle: A Sister's Hug, a Sister's Love is a heartwarming story about love, family, and sisterhood. I loved the bond between Jess and Gracie. They seemed like real sisters. Author Jessie Kravette has done a wonderful job of making the book accessible and easy for kids to enjoy and understand. Jess's and Gracie's characters will especially appeal to young readers with siblings of their own. Kravette's storytelling is captivating, drawing you in from the first page and keeping you engaged until the last. One of the other highlights of the book is the illustrations by Stephanie Rose. They add color to the pages and make the story even more engrossing. The ending is uplifting and is bound to brighten your day. It's a great picture book for kids.
