Jessie Kravette’s Scrunchsnuggle: A Sister’s Hug, a Sister’s Love is a story about two sisters, Gracie and Jess, who truly enjoy each other’s company. They try to have imaginative adventures daily, like reading the Sunday comics together, playing dress-up, sneaking blackberries from a neighbor’s bushes, and having fairy picnics. The unique bond they share is obvious and highlighted when they flip roles one night, as Gracie is scared and Jess makes her feel better. The illustrations by Stephanie Rose perfectly show how much the girls care for one another. This is a heartwarming tale of sisterly love and connection.
This story warmed my heart. I really appreciated the sweet and authentic bond between the sisters and found myself smiling at their shared adventures and tender moments in ScrunchSnuggle. As an educator, I value children’s books that model empathy, imagination, and emotional resilience. This book does that in spades. Stories about siblings who take care of each other are sometimes hard to find. Jessie Kravette’s writing is refreshing. The role reversal that occurs when Jessie comforts Gracie when she is scared at bedtime is heartwarming and is a reminder that love and security can reciprocate in a sibling relationship, regardless of which sibling is older. I also liked how it introduced the word “scrunchsnuggle”, a playful and comforting term that shows how experiences can shape language. It could inspire conversations about kindness, bravery, and siblings. The illustrations add charm and emotion to each page. This book would make a wonderful classroom read-aloud or cozy bedtime story at home.
