Legend of the Horizon Vengeance is the second book in The Two Revolvers Saga by Dave Matthes. The tribulations of Rancid Mahoney continue after the events of Leave My Ashes on Blackheart Mountain. Exiled and alone, Rancid was looking for a purpose now that he had nothing to fall back on. However, he found his salvation in a call from Frank Delmont who needed Rancid’s help to find Plath and Wyatt Delmont. The duo is Delmont’s only remaining family, so Rancid joins Frank to travel across what used to be the Caribbean Sea. But before Frank and Rancid can find the Delmont duo, they come across Mahoney’s biological mother, Empress of Woodstar City, Val Remo. She has a bone to pick with Wyatt Delmont too, as Wyatt has something that Val Remo wants back. She expects Rancid to bring Wyatt back to her, and she wants it done as soon as possible. The journey is treacherous, and the task is now more dangerous than it was before. Can Rancid get it done?
Author Dave Matthes is a master storyteller, and it shows in the style of narrative. The dialogues are fantastic, and so are the descriptions. You will feel like you are on the sea with Rancid and Frank. The readers will feel the waves, taste Rancid’s fear and desperation to get this task over with. His interaction with Frank expresses how much respect Rancid has for this man. The same cannot be said for Val. The dialogues between the mother and son are clipped and short; you can tell Rancid wants nothing from her. I hated Longbar with all my heart, and his bear was terrifying. The author invites readers in, entices them with his fanfare style of writing, and tops it all off with intense, unrelenting action. Rancid is still the same calculating man, but now he is more mature and a lot smarter than before. This is such an incredible sequel that pushes readers to want more.
