Author Biography

Lusine Torossian crafts young adult fantasy novels inspired by Armenian mythology. Drawing from her heritage, she weaves rich folklore into tales of adventure, magic, resilience, and hope. Her debut novel, Light Weaver (published by The Wild Rose Press), won the 2023 SCBWI-Florida Rising Kite Award for Young Adult Fiction.

When she’s not creating magical worlds, Lusine finds herself contemplating the meaning of life by analyzing shapes in the clouds—often her story characters show up there. In her family, she’s known for reading fortunes in Armenian coffee grounds, carrying on a generations-old tradition she’s yet to master.

A New York City native, she now lives in sunny Florida with her husband, alongside her writing partner, a very brave Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Finny.

Light Weaver by Lusine Torossian follows the story of a relic thief named Satya Lumian, who experienced the loss of her mother and brother five years prior in a massacre that eliminated the last of the healers and magic weavers. Satya could have never imagined resorting to a life of theft, especially of forbidden magical artifacts, while her mother was still alive. Satya’s mother had been one of the last remaining Sacreds, ancient warrior healers and magic weavers. After searching for a relic that could revive their family members, Satya and her father faced tragedy when he was killed. Amid danger with her father's distraction, Satya seized the relic, took a ring, and fled. By a stroke of luck, Satya escaped the Golden King's grasp. Upon returning to her village, Satya realized she needed help and sought out her former teacher, Master Raman.

Light Weaver by Lusine Torossian draws inspiration from Armenian mythology, presenting a distinctive story. It is a compelling read that captivated me from beginning to end. The writing style was engaging, allowing me to feel part of Satya’s adventure as I became fully immersed in her world. The story had a dark tone, filled with themes of war and hate, while Satya’s blossoming romance was a beacon of hope in the gloom. Magic was intricately woven into the storyline, integrating as if it were a natural element. The characters were well-crafted and relatable. Satya showed strength and determination, giving her all as she evolved and prepared to embrace the responsibility thrust upon her. The book was beautifully written and honored Torossian’s Armenian heritage and culture. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am still absorbing the experience.
