Little Aiden: A Love Book for Toddlers is a picture book in the Little Aiden Series by Albert and Anna Choi with illustrations by Bettina Braskó. Aiden is an active, intelligent, and cute toddler who does all the things you expect a toddler to do such as wake up in the morning, play with his toys, have stinky diapers, go for walks with his mom, help her with chores, and go to sleep at night. As he goes through the day, Aiden experiences a wide range of emotions like happiness, sadness, excitement, calmness, anxiety, fear, anger, bravery, shyness, confidence, helpfulness, and tiredness. Aiden’s mom assures him repeatedly that she loves him with all her heart no matter how he feels, and that she always will.
In Little Aiden: A Love Book for Toddlers, Albert and Anna Choi give us a delightful picture book that is sure to entertain both children and the adults who share it with them. The full-color illustrations are utterly charming and relatable. Aiden is shown at his best, his worst, his most comfortable, and his most challenged. Through it all, his mother calmly reassures him of her love despite what he’s feeling and how he expresses it. Some words may challenge the lexical knowledge of very young children, but the illustrations offer opportunities for discussion and the repetitive text helps to ensure the child grasps the concept. I enjoyed how Aiden’s beloved teddy bear accompanied him throughout his day, and some scenes will have you giggling.
