Crucible of Dawn is the third installment of the Lodestone Series written by author Mark Whiteway. In this latest adventure our favorite heroes return, Lyall, Alondo, Keris and Shann. To refresh your memory: in Book One meteoroids plummet onto the planet Kelanni. The stones affect the citizens causing a change in their culture. The Prophet is aided by the Keltar in their flying cloaks, who enslave the Kelanni people to mine the lodestones. Shann is an orphan determined to free her people. She joins forces with Keris, a Keltar, to find the ancient device that will save her people. Book One was an introduction for the next two books. Book Two mostly focuses on Shann. She and Boxx, the Chandara, are separated from the others. They meet Rael, an apprentice scientist.
This brings us to Book Three. Rael and Shann land on the island of Helice. Shann is naturally suspicious when she sees a floating eye. Rael calls it a watcher and speaks to it. A voice bids them to follow. A human joins the misfits in their quest and teaches them a lesson from human history. The rebels prepare for the battle that will determine life or death.
Mark Whiteway did it again! With each book he just gets better. I’ve purposely told you little about the plot of Crucible of Dawn. Fans of Whiteway already know to expect a high quality, high action, Sci-Fi adventure. This book begins where Book Two left off. I highly recommend reading these books in order. I had already read the first two books, but I went back and skimmed them again. Whiteway is a master at character development. He describes just enough to allow the readers imagination to take charge.
