Look for the Magic: Mindfulness for Children by Jamie Chin is a charming picture book that teaches children about the importance of living in the moment and looking for the small, everyday things that are magical. It follows a young girl and her family as they spend time outdoors, observing nature and using all their senses to take it in. The girl is depicted meditating, and this teaches the importance of silence and how deep breathing can help calm you. The whole family gets involved and the young girl spends time with animals including her pet rabbit. If established early on, these practices can help children to relax and express their emotions or discuss anything bothering them.

Jamie Chin has written a fun, easy-to-understand book for children with Look for the Magic. I think that mindfulness is an important skill to learn and that many people only acquire it later in life, so they miss out on the advantages in their earlier years. Learning it as a child could help with future anxiety issues and allow the child to understand the importance of stepping back and taking care of yourself when you feel overwhelmed. This is especially relevant if anxiety or other mental health issues run in a family. The pictures are brightly colored and young children will love them. I would definitely recommend this book as you are never too young to start taking care of and understanding emotional health and well-being.
