Author Biography

Alexa Darin is an award-winning author who grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where she spent her summers horseback riding or lazing about at the beach with friends. She also spent considerable time crushing on the boy next door. But first crushes rarely last, and by the time Alexa was old enough to be more practical, she had other ideas about what she wanted to do with her life. From medicine to accounting to technical editing, Alexa finally settled on a career of writing romantic stories that make people laugh. Her books are known for their quirky characters, which she says makes sitting at a desk writing all day more fun than work. She credits her final career choice to that long-ago boy next door.

When not in writer mode, Alexa spends her leisure time hiking in the Alpine Wilderness or playing doorman to a couple of Labrador retrievers who are constantly plotting her demise. A mostly self-taught piano player, Alexa has finally given up on becoming a concert pianist.

Love Trip is a contemporary romantic fiction novel written by Alexa Darin. Taylor Grant marveled at the change in scenery as she waited for her little sister, Paula, to pick her up from the ferry. She was still smarting over the thoughtless and cruel way her live-in lover of five years had broken up with her, and could still see in her mind’s eye the Starbucks napkin with his goodbye scrawled across it. While she was waiting, she glanced over at the buff and chiseled man in the white cowboy hat. He was definitely something to look at, but she was there for a purpose and wouldn't be staying for very long. Taylor belonged back in Seattle, working the long hours expected of any associate hoping to be made partner at a prestigious law firm. And she was definitely finished with men -- at least for now. Taylor’s assignment was to find out exactly why her sister had decided to make St. John her home. Both she and her mother knew Paula's place was in Seattle with them; it was just a matter of getting Paula to see reason. But things don't always work exactly as one plans, and, before she knew it, she was sitting in the passenger seat of Cole McKenzie's car, he of the white cowboy hat and dreamy looks. Paula had sent him to pick her up; it figures, Taylor mused, Paula would try to set her up.

Alexa Darin's contemporary romantic fiction novel, Love Trip, is a well-written and enthralling second chances story about an overworked attorney who travels to the Caribbean to convince her sister to abandon her newly acquired tropical lifestyle and business. Darin's story touches on some issues that will have many readers nodding their heads, including deciding whether to become parents, giving up adventure and the unknown for the sake of familial obligation, and figuring out whether that second chance that has popped up out of nowhere is for real. As I read, I fell in love with St. John, the tiny island where Paula has found her sense of self, and began to hope that somehow Taylor Grant, attorney at law, would find her own happiness. Darin's characters are compelling, finely drawn and authentic, from the enigmatic cowboy, Cole MacKenzie, to the diminutive Ella Su, house masseuse for Paula's Fish Shack. Love Trip is a fun read, and it’s most highly recommended.

Love Trip by Alexa Darin is a seaside romance featuring Taylor, a Seattle attorney, who is fresh out of a relationship and visiting her little sister who operates a tropical island bar. While she is not looking for love, she finds it with cowboy castaway Cole, but all is not calm seas for the handsome couple. Secrets and internal conflict keep them second guessing the odds of ever becoming a couple.

Love Trip is the perfect vacation read. With likeable characters, amazing scene setting, and just enough conflict to keep this dream-like romance interesting, a reader can easily get lost between the pages while lounging in the sun. Author Alexa Darin exhibits real talent in telling a story that feels familiar and yet fresh and compelling at the same time. Her description of island life is enough to make you want to pack your bags and run away from home.

While I enjoyed Love Trip because it was comfortable and followed a tried and true formula of many contemporary romances, that is also the book's downfall. Readers looking for a unique read may be put off, but for what it is, this book offers an easy to follow plot with a bit of escapism that we all need to get away from the mundane day to day lives we must lead. I applaud Alexa Darin's attempt to provide her readers with a much needed virtual mini-vacation within the pages of her book. Pass me the sunscreen, beach umbrella, and fruity rum drink!
