“Magical Toys: a story about organization and taking care of your toys,” by Edith Ordan and Uncle Amos and illustrated by Malgorzata Godziuk, is a cute story that teaches children to pick up and take care of their toys. Ron is a little boy who has a lot of toys in his bedroom. One day Ron’s friend John comes over to play after school. The boys have so much fun playing with the toys, but they do not want to pick up the toys when they are done playing. Ron is punished by his parents as they are disappointed that he did not take care of his toys and put them back in their proper spaces. That night while lying in bed, Ron hears voices and realizes that his animals are talking. Ron’s toys are upset as they have been left lying on the floor and they were not taken care of. Ron begs for one more chance to show them that he cares.
Children love playing with toys, but often do not want to put their toys away when the fun is over. Edith Ordan and Uncle Amos have teamed up and written Magical Toys to teach children the importance of taking care of one’s things. This is a fun book to read with children as it has vibrant illustrations and lively text. The boys’ excitement and love of playing with the toys is evident, which really drives home the concept of ownership and taking care of your own things. Ron becomes upset when his toys discuss going to a new home where they will be cared for. This is a great conversation starter with children and a great way to teach this important lesson.
