Manga Cross-Stitch is a exceptional idea. The author, Helen McCarthy has combined Japanese animation and cross-stitching to form a creative art form. I enjoy doing cross-stitch and various other forms of needle work. Using this book I can see the possibility of gifts for several of my grandchildren. Japanese animation is an art form that is popular among many young people. I wasn’t as interested in that aspect of this book as I was learning to create my own designs. There is a CD included to assist the reader in creating new designs on their computer.

McCarthy demonstrates the basic cross-stitch and several variations. >From beginner to expert this book has something for ever level of expertise. The photographs in this book are excellent. This is not a thrown together book. It is beautifully done with an emphasis on quality. I have only one suggestion, spiral binding. It would be much easier to work with if the book would stay open on its own.
