In Marty’s Fellowship of the King’s Armor by Cindy Black, we learn that the King’s Armor was worn as a sign of loyalty, love, and protection but along the way pride and greed among creatures in the animal kingdom caused the armor to be split up and hidden from an evil creature that washed away goodness. The afflicted animals lost hope and fell into darkness. The King sends a signal to those who still hear his voice to awake from their prophetic visions. We are then introduced to three animals: Marty, Kasa, and Willy. Their prophetic vision told them to form a fellowship and save the world by collecting the armor before evil spirits take over and everything is lost.

Cindy Black has done a wonderful job creating a faith-based story that will capture the attention of the young reader. Instead of just having scripture thrown into the mix, the author explains what it means while weaving the story of a group of animal friends on a mission to find the sacred armor. This armor has special meaning and at the beginning of each chapter we learn how each part is important. The illustrations are simple but effective, fitting the plot perfectly. As we follow Marty and his friends, the reader becomes invested in the story as well as the new characters that are introduced along the way. Marty’s Fellowship of the King’s Armor is definitely a book I would recommend checking out.
