Discover what happens in Max the Mockingbird written by Courtney and Brandee Huddleston. Max really enjoys circling around his neighborhood to see what he can find. He is very friendly and likes to have fun. His favorite activity is to mimic the many noises he hears. He hopes to make some friends by using his talent. Max can’t imagine anything better than having a new friend to share beautiful sunny days with. However, Max begins to lose hope after a morning of ineffective attempts to make friends. He wants to put on a show for them, revealing what he does best but is being misunderstood. Will he ever get the chance to make friends at all? Will anyone finally appreciate his ability?

I enjoyed sharing Max the Mockingbird with my seven-year-old son. He loved the very bright, bold, and colorful illustrations in this book. Max’s adventures in finding friendship reminded me of the saying 'If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try again.' The pace is just right, and the action is not too intense for children. Courtney and Brandee Huddleston's comic book style format was very nostalgic for me. It reminded me of reading comics in the Sunday papers that starred animals like Garfield the Cat. I recommend fans of the book series Sammy the Bird by V. Moua to read this book because the main character is also a bird. The difference is Max has a specific talent that brings trouble at times.
