Maya Visits Her Doctor: Vaccination by Dr. Nicole Audet is another informative and educational book in the Felix and Booboo series. The story begins with Maya telling her brother, Felix, during breakfast that she has to go to Dr. Bones' office for a vaccination. Maya is afraid of needles and, to reassure his sister, Felix goes and gets his magical doctor’s bag. He decides to go to the doctor’s office with Maya. At the doctor’s office, all the instruments stretch their heads out of the bag to hear Dr. Bones' funny questions. The seven instruments come out of the bag and tell Dr. Bones that they will assist him in examining and vaccinating Maya. With the help of these talking instruments, Maya will get over her fears of going to the doctor for a vaccination.
The concept is excellent as it helps children like Maya to get rid of their fears. The quiz at the end of the book is educational and fun. The illustrations are delightful and they bring the characters and the story alive. I like the manner in which the author describes Maya’s check-up at Doctor Bones’ office and her vaccination. She makes children aware of what goes on inside a doctor’s clinic in an engaging and interesting way. This series is a must-have in one's personal collection as it enables parents to help children understand different concepts and situations in a way that is appealing. It is a good story for classroom story-telling and read aloud sessions as children can be taught about medical visits in a fun and interactive way.
