Maybe You Should Give Up: 7 Ways to Get out of Your Own Way and Take Control of Your Life by Byron Morrison is a motivational book. Unlike previous self-help books, this author highlights seven major beliefs we should give up so that we can live and control our own lives. The guide is full of new ideas because after following the methods suggested in other self-help books, Morrison found that they had shortcomings and did not work. Hence, he came up with his own ideas and presents them in this work. To make his ideas come alive, Morrison used many anecdotes, which are real-world stories from his private clients. For reasons of confidentiality, he has changed the names of the people involved.
Who doesn’t want to live and control their own lives? But the question is how? This is how Maybe You Should Give Up by Byron Morrison is such a valuable book. In his introduction, Morrison says “Giving up is the key to being successful.” If we want to be successful, we need to be comfortable with the idea of giving up. However, according to Morrison, two obstacles prevent us from giving up: one internal, and one external. I liked the author’s explanations and insights on this, and his elaboration on the seven beliefs that we should give up. For those who are looking for ways to change their lives, this is a recommended read.
