Poetry allows us to express our deepest emotions and transforms them into powerful words on the page. Memoirs of Addiction is such a poetry collection. In this book, Susan J. Turner invites readers into her world through a moving array of poems that delve into her personal journey, exploring themes of love, relationships, addiction, motherhood, and self-discovery, among others. "You Can't Touch Me" illustrates how to set boundaries, with the narrator drawing clear lines about what she wants and doesn't want. "Confessions" is a poignant poem about admitting one's mistakes. "Rescue Me" is a call for help to the loved one. The narrator refuses to ever compromise for less than what she deserves in "I Will Not Settle." The poem "Mother's Day" celebrates womanhood and everything it entails.

Susan J. Turner draws on her experiences to present an enthralling collection of poems that shed light on the different phases of her life. This is a deep exploration of the human condition through a personal lens. Although her poetry is intimate, the universal themes she addresses resonate deeply, making each poem not just relatable but also emotionally powerful. These poems vividly capture the complexity of the human experience, weaving together themes of love, heartache, longing, and motherhood while drawing readers into the tapestry of the author's life journey. Each poem brings something unique to the collection while staying consistent with the larger narrative themes. Memoirs of Addiction is a collection that will appeal to all poetry lovers, especially women. I'm glad I read it and highly recommend it.
