I was a little skeptical starting this book, as I haven't read a book like this in quite some time. I had never heard of the author and the plot line, while interesting, didn't quite seem up my alley. But, sitting down and taking the time to read through this book, I quickly became hooked and fell in love with the characters and the author's work.

When I read a Christian fiction novel, I don't like it to be preachy. I love to learn more about the characters and the lessons they learn in life than the preachy aspect of many Christian novels out there. Sylvia Bambola did not create a preachy novel at all in Mercy at Midnight. She filled this book with characters that grip you, a plot line that is completely filled with twists, turns and powerful lessons, and an ending that will have you ready for more work by this talented lady. That's the kind of Christian novel I love and would read over and over again.

Stubby, Jonathan and Cynthia were all wonderful characters. Each one found a special place in my heart. Reading their stories, and following their walks of faith in life, really opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking. Stubby's character was my favorite and I felt his emotions to the core of my being. It takes a lot of talent from an author to do that for me! Watching Cynthia come to terms with her past, and her present really was a great experience. And Pastor Jonathan. Bless him, I loved his character, too! His choices in life haven't always been the easiest, but he fully relies on his faith in and love of God, and prevails!

Ms. Bambola is definitely an author I won't soon forget! The characters she creates are chiseled perfectly, the unexpected twists she adds to the plot to keep the readers hooked are amazing, and her writing style is unique. I definitely enjoyed this book and look forward to recommending it to other book lovers everywhere! Well done, Ms. Bambola!
